iPhone app and widgets

Connecting the app to the Cloud or your own server, signing in, Face ID and passkey, home-screen widgets.

The Rivo iPhone app (iOS 17 and later; on iPad it uses an adaptive layout) is the same dashboard as on the web: money, plan, vault, contacts and the other sections. Which sections you see is decided by your server and plan.

The app will be on the App Store later: the link will appear on the home page and in your customer account — for now they say "soon".

Connecting

The quickest way is a QR code from the web, if you are already signed in to Rivo on your computer: the app takes the address and the sign-in from the code. How — Connect your iPhone with a QR code.

By hand: the first screen asks where your Rivo is:

  • Cloud — enter the name (the part before .me.rivo.day) or paste the whole address.
  • Own server — the full address of your installation: HTTPS, plain HTTP only on a local network.

No account yet — the 14-day trial link leads to signup.

If the server sits behind Cloudflare Access, tap "Scan access code" on the address screen and scan the QR code from Settings → Access → Devices on the web.

Signing in

  • Cloud — email and password, with a forgot-password link. Addresses on *.me.rivo.day also offer signing in with a passkey.
  • Own installation — with the PIN or a password, depending on how sign-in is set up on the server. Passkey sign-in and iCloud Keychain password autofill don't work on your own domain — that's an Apple limitation. If a passkey is set up on the web, the vault in the app opens with the PIN plus a code from Settings → Access → App code.

More on sign-in methods — Signing in: PIN, password and passkey.

Face ID

  • Face ID protects the app at launch and covers it when you return from the background.
  • The vault unlocks with Face ID for 10 minutes.
  • Quick sign-in: email and password are kept in the Keychain behind Face ID. Turn it off in the app's settings → Protection → Face ID sign-in.

Switching instances

App settings → Instance → Switch instance. This signs you out: the token, PIN and cache are wiped from the phone, data on the server stays.

Widgets

  • The widget doesn't go online by itself — it shows a snapshot the app left. Until there's data, or after you sign out, it asks you to open the app.
  • It refreshes every 30 minutes and at midnight; a snapshot older than two hours is labelled with how long ago it was updated.
  • If amounts are hidden with the "eye" in the app, the widget shows "•••". On the lock screen the system hides amounts.

If the Cloud isn't paid

The app is read-only, with a banner and a pay button on top. See Plans and payment.
