Getting started: Cloud or your own server

How Cloud, Managed VPS and Self-host differ, how to create your Rivo in the Cloud and what to do on day one.

Rivo is one product with three ways to run it. The modules are the same everywhere; what differs is where your instance runs and who looks after it.

OptionWhere it runsWho maintains it
Cloudwith us, at name.me.rivo.daywe do: updates, backups, certificates
Managed VPSon a dedicated server we set up and run for you (when the plan is open in Pricing)we do
Self-hoston your own serveryou do: one install command, updates and backups with the rivo CLI

One difference in features: bank sign-in (automatic statement sync) is not available in the Cloud — in Settings that section is marked as self-host only.

Prices and terms are in Pricing and in Plans and payment.

Cloud: how to start

  1. Open the signup page and enter your email — we'll send a confirmation code.
  2. Choose your Rivo address: Latin letters, digits and hyphens, 3 to 32 characters. It becomes name.me.rivo.day. It can't be changed later.
  3. Enter the code from the email and click create.
  4. The "ready" screen gives you a link to set your account password and your vault PIN — the PIN is shown once, save it.

The trial lasts 14 days with every feature, no card needed. Paid days are added on top of the trial.

If signup isn't open yet, the page lets you leave your email — we'll write when the Cloud opens.

If the period ends unpaid

The instance becomes read-only: you can sign in, view your data and export it and the vault, but not change anything. A banner asks you to pay to continue. Paying in your customer account restores full access immediately.

After 30 days without payment we take a backup and delete the instance; you'll get emails before that — when it's suspended, 7 days and 1 day before deletion. If you need the data after deletion, write to [email protected].

Your own server (Self-host)

You need a VPS with Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, a domain and one command — see Installing on your own server. You sign in to such an instance with the PIN the installer prints at the end.
